Protect Your Dream Car With Classic Muscle car Insurance

There is something special about the bond between a husband and his wife, a boy and his dog, a man and his classic 1964 ½ candy apple red Ford Mustang convertible. It’s hard to understand the affection that some Americans have for their automobiles, and this affection often seems tripled or brought to unnatural proportions in the case of owners of classic “muscle” cars of the sixties and seventies. Fortunately there are several companies who specifically offer classic muscle car insurance for all of those enthusiasts out there.

From the mid sixties through about 1979, American car manufacturers produced various cars that were targeted at one particular consumer demographic: males between the ages of eighteen and twenty nine. Dubbed muscle cars by car enthusiasts and the general public, these cars were sleek, exciting, fast, and powerful. While no car is usually specifically designated as a muscle car by its manufacturer, we know them when we see them. The Mustang, Chevelle, Barracuda, GTO, Corvette, Charger, and other such models are all possessive of a quality that gives some men a thrill that borders on erotic excitement just seeing these cars, hearing them rev their powerful engines, and especially driving them. Classic automobile car insurance or classic muscle car insurance was developed with these people in mind.

Why is classic automobile car insurance necessary? A car is a car is a car, right? Shouldn’t any insurance company be able to cover a muscle car the same as it would any other vehicle? Yes and no. Most car insurance providers can insure a GTO as easily as they can a Geo Metro, sure, but in many cases muscle car owners have special insurance needs. Muscle cars, particularly if they have been restored or “souped up,” are at a higher risk for theft as many car theft rings specifically target these cars. This is especially true if the muscle car is a rare classic and collectible. Certain versions of the Ford Mustang, Plymouth “Super Bird,” and other classics fall into this category.

Another reason that special insurance is sometimes needed by muscle car enthusiasts is that traditional insurance companies will not insure certain vehicles. I once owned a Mustang Cobra, for example, and was told by my State Farm agent at the time that their company would not insure my car. It fell into their category of “race cars” and was therefore considered uninsurable. Sometimes this decision is made based on more than just the type of car. A middle aged doctor, for example, may have a better chance of insuring his 1967 Shelby Mustang than an eighteen year-old high school student would.

Need to find a company that offers insurance especially for your classic muscle car? Contact your insurance agent; your current company may have options for you or search the Internet and you’ll definitely find a company that can insure your precious baby.
