Choices in Young Car Insurance

When speaking about young car insurance, people typically mean car insurance for young drivers. Young drivers typically have special needs in car insurance coverage because auto insurance costs more for them than it does for more experienced drivers. The United States, unfortunately, does not have many companies that offer specialized insurance services to young drivers. Europe and Australia seem to have much more to offer than the US when it comes to young drivers, but the indications that this may change are there.

Young car insurance companies in other countries offer scaled down insurance products that are designed to offer young drivers a chance at obtaining auto insurance at a lower cost than they would typically have to pay for auto insurance. This coverage usually provides a bare minimum of liability protection to pay for property damage to other people’s vehicles in an accident caused by the driver and offers no coverage at all for the repair of the insured vehicle. Customers choosing this protection usually have cars that aren’t worth much money.

With the costs of insurance in the United States rising consistently and young drivers typically having to pay far greater premiums, a strong argument could be made for American companies to start offering this type of coverage. The closest thing that US companies offer to date is “non-standard” auto insurance which makes people with shaky credit ratings and poor driving records its target consumer group. It is possible that American companies looking at European trends may pick up on the concept of offering specialized insurance for young drivers after a while. If the industry determines that there is a market for something in this country, you can bet that it will start being offered.
